The Calgary Stampeders have made a number of moves ahead of today’s CFL deadline for teams to reduce their roster to 65 players (excluding non-counters).

The following players have been released:

  • National linebacker James Green
  • National long snapper Tim St. Pierre
  • International receiver Cam White
  • International defensive lineman Ridge Wilson
St. Pierre joined the Stampeders in 2011 and appeared in 51 regular-season games, seeing action as a long snapper and a fullback.

Green signed with Calgary as a free agent during the off-season after seven CFL seasons with Toronto, Winnipeg and Ottawa.

White and Wilson are CFL rookies.

Kinne signed with the National Football League’s New York Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2012 and he has also spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants. Kinne is an alum of the University of Tulsa where in 2011 he threw for 3,090 yards and 28 touchdowns while running for 405 yards and three majors.

The Calgary Stampeders have signed international defensive lineman Demonte’ Bolden.

This is Bolden’s second stint with the Red and White — he first signed with Calgary on Oct. 17, 2011, and played 32 games for the Stamps over three seasons (2012-14), recording 56 tackles, three tackles for loss, eight sacks, one forced fumble, three fumble recoveries and three knockdowns. He was part of the Stamps’ Grey Cup team in 2014 and delivered a big play in Calgary’s victory when he blocked a field goal attempt.

Prior to joining the Stamps, he played 30 games over two seasons (2009-10) for Hamilton and accumulated 60 tackles and three sacks.

The Calgary Stampeders have signed five nationals including their first two selections in the 2016 CFL draft — linebacker Alex Singleton (first round, sixth overall) and receiver Juwan Brescacin (second round, 15th overall).

Two other 2016 draft picks — defensive lineman Michael Kashak (sixth round, 51st overall) and offensive lineman Quinn Horton (eighth round, 68th overall) — and undrafted free defensive back Malcolm Brownwere also signed.

Whatley played four seasons (2011-14) at Middle Tennessee State and in 48 games for the Blue Raiders he had 1,666 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns as well as 31 catches for 227 yards and one score. He led the team in rushing as a senior in 2014 with 767 yards as he averaged 6.8 yards per carry and scored seven touchdowns. His career average of 26.9 yards per kickoff return set a school record. He attended rookie camp with the National Football League’s Tennessee Titans in 2015.

The Calgary Stampeders have signed international defensive linemen Brandon Thurmond, Marcus Thompson and Ridge Wilson as free agents. As per team policy, terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

Calgary first signed Thurmond as a free agent on Sept. 15, 2015, and he spent a month on the practice roster. He played one game for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2014. Thurmond was the Southwestern Athletic Conference defensive player of the year at Arkansas-Pine Bluff in 2012 after recording 17.5 sacks, three fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and one blocked kick.

Thompson played four seasons (2010-13) at Rutgers, seeing action at both linebacker and defensive end. He had had 51 tackles and 5.5 sacks as a senior in 2013 and was the team’s co-MVP on defence. Thompson signed with the NFL’s Miami Dolphins as an unrestricted free agent on May 12, 2014, and also spent time with the New Orleans Saints.

The Calgary Stampeders have signed international defensive backs Tommie Campbell and Osagie Odiase as free agents. As per team policy, terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

Campbell has 44 games of National Football League experience with the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars. He was selected in the seventh round (251st overall) by the Titans and played 37 games from 2011-2013, recording 29 tackles. Campbell played seven games for Jacksonville in 2014 and had eight tackles and one forced fumble.

Campbell completed his collegiate career with one season (2010) at California University of Pennsylvania. In 12 games, including four starts at cornerback, for the Vulcans, he had 29 tackles and two interceptions and was invited to take part in the Division II Cactus Bowl.
