Blake Nill has stepped down as head coach of the U of C Dinos to head to UBC to coach the Thunderbirds.

    Huge loss for Calgary.

Never thought I'd see it. Thought if Blake left the Dinos it'd be for a CFL job.

Too bad. It has just been announced that the 2015 Vanier cup will be in Quebec City at Laval University for a 4th time Saturday November 28th. Blake might have had one last shot at winning there with the Dinos after 3 misses.

Uteck bowl will be West vs Atlantic in the Maritimes with Ontario hosting Quebec for the Mitchell.

There had to have been some issues boiling over from seasons past, and a pile of money (with a clean slate) at UBC on the table. Why take such a lateral move this late in your career? Chris Morris at the U of A must feel like a kid on Christmas having this happen to the U of C right now.

UBC has had some serious issues with their finances this year. Many (most?) of the football players still hadn't gotten their scholarship money as late as November 22nd. That is going to make recruiting tough especially with Simon Fraser across the city.

Thunderbird Stadium is in need of some serious upgrades too. The stands are so far from the field! Feels like walking into a stadium from the 1920s.

speaking of SFU. they went 2-9 in their first full season under coach Jacques. I expect he'll be recruiting hard to improve this team maybe even at Laval's expense.

It's like if Constantin would leave Laval for McGill.

Blake is getting over $200,000 to move to UBC. Prices are going up.

Steve Burrato is the front runner for the Dino job. Wonder if he asks for $200,000 too.

Surprising that Jacques is interviewing in the CFL again, I thought after his last run that he'd give it up and just make his money at SFU and then get out.

Really? Wouldn't it be something to see him back in the fold.

Personally, I'd think no. Then again, I'm not him. He's had his tour of duty around the league and been mediocre where ever he's been. Then again, Chaps doesnt have the most sterling reputation in minor football, so perhaps we wants out of it and back into the bigs...

He might have bit off more than he could chew at SFU. Like Buono he never seems to want to return to his roots in Quebec. Als could use him as an OC or for special teams. Would help their PR greatly.

I could see that for sure. There are huge recruiting wars happening in BC in the lower mainland and on the island, now throw a powerhouse coach like Nill into the mix, and it makes selling American Div 2 ball very tough. I can see now from a recruiting perspective for Nill, this being an easy transition as he raids the BCFC and PFC on a regular basis for experienced CJFL guys...

It'll be interesting. Simon Fraser could see 5 guys drafted this year plus selling the features of a long schedule, tougher opponents and more scholarship money. I think Blake takes a year or two to find his feet but unlike Coach Olson he isn't afraid to switch things up. Thought that the T-Birds made a big mistake going with Deschamps as the starting RB instead of Terrell Davis. Marcus and Terrell Davis are a fantastic pairing and will give CanWest defenses headaches next year.
