A crap show... But at least they'll still get a new stadium out of it so I don't know how it is THAT FUNNY!!! Next season, they'll be in a new home.

No comment from Bronks on this?

I can't believe that they're that delayed on this stadium that it's come to the point of having to play another year at Canad, even after the whole "farewell" tour last year.

Somebody (or a whole bunch of people) should be fired over this.

The contractor kept promising but the Bombers have to take a lot of the blame for clinging to dreams here. Pretty obvious the place wouldn't be finished yet they kept delaying the inevitable decision until yesterday.

The Bummers and most of their unwashed public are under the illustion that Stuart Olson Dominion will finish the stadium on their own dime and the Bombers (and the NDP govt. which funded the thing) are only on the hook for the original $190 million promised.

Thats kinda bunk. Construction companies DO NOT fund cost overruns, especially weather-related when they are privately owned and must report to their greedy shareholders and directors. Its estimated that work on the new facility will easily continue thru December, with final touch ups finishing around March/April.

If they slack off on the project (ie. less employees on site, no pressure to finish in August/September) then who knows what a really hellacious winter/spring might cause. Possibly a 2 or 3 game delay in July, don't know, don't want it, just being circumspect.

But if having 400 to 500 workers on site daily (when they're actually working) the cost of this project could easily escalate to somewhere around 250 to 300 million, without much effort. So the bombers are telling me that Stuart Olson is gonna pay up to 100 million out of charity???? C'MON MAN!

There's ways construction companies can get out of such committments. Tundra can give you the legals. Here's my analysis - the wing of the construction company goes bankrupt or insolvent and the bombers/NDP have to fund final construction themselves, even though they'll probably also fund some legal recourse against the parent company of the construction arm. But so long as everyone in Manitoba is under the illusion of completeness for prescribed dollars, let them be happy! (Temporarily)

Buchko is the face of this & as such, with all the promises he made should be held accountable as in ... getting fired.

The only problem firing Garth, The Stadium Butcher is the same one the bombers have fought for years. Firing people with long-term contracts costs a ton of money - and now the bombers have to show more financial prudence to the public who are funding most of the 200 million stadium costs.

Bauer always had himself tethered to a long-term contract that paid him something north of $450,000 and was multi-year (3 + option, maybe even more).......Bombers flubbed along with firings and various payouts to a huge list of incomptents (start with Reinbold, Dave Ritchie, Doug Berry, Mike Kelly, John Murphy, Arash Madani, Kit Cartwright, Jamie Barresi, even Cal Murphy had to be fired)

The Bombers can't afford another firing of a bloke like Snotko; unless they plan to replace him with Jim Bell and leave the spot open til its paid out. Hopefully, they didn't bring Buchko in with a Bauer-like contract of 3 + 1, maybe a standard 2 year CEO contract. If so, lets ride out this year, see what happens. Buchko might find that at age 55 or 56 he prefers the closed world of radio sales a surer bet than being the CFL's designated clown boy.

But to cut Buchko now, thats gonna cost $500k for one year, about double for two.

How old is Buchko? He's trying to look a hip 35... With the spiky highlighted hair. But he has to be like you say, 50 or 55.

Garthy used to work for the old CKRC station in the Free Press bldg. (Doc Steen, Gary Miles, etc.) but he switched over to CJOB when CKRC folded in the mid to late 80s. Was a salesman, sales manager, general manager at CJOB but he couldn't crack the Corus Radio corporate ladder and finagled a deal to circumvent the hiring process of a legitimate CEO when the bomber board felt Honest Jim (Bell) was a great leader and represenative of the club but a whiffball as a salesman. If nothing else Butchko learned how to hard -close a contract - -- - two areas where hard-ball salesmanship is a basic requirement - 1. Selling cars, 2. Selling radio time.

His age has been reported anywhere from 53 to 57. In any event he's older than the 53/54 year old Bauer.

When I was in Winnipeg in October of last year, I couldn't find the "new stadium" for the life of me.

This must be hugely embarrassing to the Bomber organization.

It's just a little south of downtown. As the crow flies for about 2 days. ;)
