The newly re-vamped Alberta CWHL team was on hand for the opening face-off between the Flames and Rangers. I expect a good season out of them this year.

Hopefully the new support from the Flames and the new re-branding will stir up some support for them.

Only Toronto and Calgary NHL teams have shown support so far. Montreal and Boston need to step up. A Brampton Thunder volunteer joked they should get support from Tampa Bay.

the Canadian Women's Hockey League. in existence since 2008. Alberta used to play in the now defunct Western Women's Hockey League and have joined the CWHL since 2011.

girls used to pay up to 1000$ to play but now thanks to Scotiabank they need not pay anything to play but are not as of yet 'paid professionals'.

Usually 150-200. One time the Flames allowed the team to play on their rink with free admission and drew maybe 800 folk

Another 2-1 win matches their total of wins last year. Have to finish in the top 4 out of 5 to enter the clarkson cup tourney in march. Calgary now third.

Brian Burke now on the CWHL board of directors and Sid Crosby's mom acting as an ambassador to the league. Some big names stepping up.

Inferno got swept in Mtl last weekend but play 9 of their last 13 at home and have a legit shot at repping alberta at the clarkson cup tourney in Markham,Ontario next march 19-22.

There was a near line brawl in the Canada vs US exhibition game last night. If the ladies didn't have full face shields it might've escaladed even further. As it was there were plenty of punches thrown, a couple of WWE takedowns and a couple of slashes while the yakking was going on.

Sadly, if they had more of that in the CWHL, tickets would be selling like hotcakes.

Big win in Brampton last night making 2 out of the last 3 in Ontario.

Last road game today before playing their last 9 at home.

5-8-1 record in 4th place so far. Only the top 4 make it to the Clarkson Cup tourney March 18-22.

Update: A 5-1 win today gives them a 5 point lead over last place Brampton. Looks like We should see CALGARY in Markham, Ont in 8 weeks.
