Calgary Stampeders News Roundup for August 17, 2015

    Game balls - Aug. 15

See who was presented with the game balls after Saturday's win over the Ottawa RedBlacks.

Rob Maver had a stellar outing in Saturday’s big win versus the RedBlacks, punting the ball 12 times for a 45.6-yard average including two flawless kicks bouncing out of bounds at Ottawa’s one-yard line.
The Stampeders first-round draft choice back in 2010 also added a punt single with under five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter to close out the scoring.

Twitter spat erupts between former Stamps teammates
The agent of Calgary Stampeders linebacker Jasper Simmons caused some commotion on Twitter Saturday night, ahead of the Stampeders' win over Simmons' former team, the Ottawa Redblacks.

Calgary Stampeders go back and forth on social media
It was supposed to be a quiet Sunday evening.
As it turned out, there were more haymakers thrown by two former Calgary Stampeders teammates than there were in Saturday night's blowout win between the two combatants.
Stamps slotback Marquay McDaniel (@_McDaniel16) touched off the Twitter war by commenting on the Jasper Simmons situation, which saw the player's agent rip the Stamps.

Calgary Stampeders trying to clean up mess with unhappy LB Jasper Simmons
Jasper Simmons is not a happy camper.
    That’s not a shock.
    It’s even understandable.
But when the Calgary Stampeders disgruntled linebacker’s agent took to Twitter on Saturday night, it likely didn’t do his client many favours.
“It’s a shame what the @calstampeders are doing to Jasper Simmons. The worst organization in the @CFL is holding him hostage & won’t play him,” agent Sammy Gahagan (@SammyG75) tweeted.

Calgary Stampeders 48, Ottawa RedBlacks 3: Game Balls & Game Bricks
Blowout wins are like walking through a carnival funhouse.
First off, it was fun. Did everyone see the Calgary Stampeders secondary getting their groove on while sitting on the bench after three quarters?
But just like those funhouse mirrors distort reality, Saturday’s 48-3 laugher didn’t exactly portray the truth.

Stamps special-teams earn credit in blowout of Redblacks
Whenever Bo Levi Mitchell walks off the field after failing to score points, he can’t wait to get right back out there.
So imagine his joy against the Ottawa Redblacks. Three times Saturday night, the Calgary Stampeders offence came off the field only to turn around and run right back into the huddle.
During a 48-3 trouncing of the Redblacks at McMahon Stadium — the team’s fifth-straight home win this season — the Stamps benefited from three punt-return fumble recoveries.

Reserve Stampeders linebacker takes his frustrations at sitting public
The Calgary Stampeders were preparing for a football game Saturday afternoon, so it’s not likely they were checking Twitter.
If they had, they would have discovered that one of their players is quite frustrated he wasn’t one of those preparing to battle the Ottawa RedBlacks.
Just hours before Calgary’s 48-3 destruction of Jasper Simmons’ former team, the player’s agent went on a rant about how the Stamps are holding the linebacker ‘hostage’ by not playing him.

Frustrated Ottawa RedBlacks 'embarrassed' over Calgary drubbing
Football is such a game of emotion and momentum.
Ottawa RedBlacks' Brandon McDonald was wearing his emotion in his team's dressing room moments after the worst lost in his team's brief history - a 48-3 Saturday night shellacking courtesy of the hometown Stampeders.
With punt returner/receiver Chris Williams missing his second straight game with an injury, McDonald fumbled twice on returns, both huge momentum changers.

I feel for Jesper Simmons, however, certain things should be left behind closed doors. Plenty of frustration on his part but to disrespect the organization is not cool. As an organization, the Stamps like any other teams represent the brand CFL. Whether it is the Stamps, Redblacks, Argo's or the Riders etc, I think most players who play in this league realize how fortunate these teams pay for them to keep making a somewhat decent living and playing the game they so call love. I realize the guy wants to play, but the Stamps have some great depth and it is tough to crack the lineup. Be patient and Huff will figures things out for him.
