The CFL has expanded the draft from 6 rounds to 7 rounds.

I suspect at least a couple teams will take byes on 7th round selections. No need to pull in players that for budgetary reasons they won't sign anyways. Don't want extras at training camp who crimp into buffet table budgets, travel, uniforms, health assessments, extra negotiations, etc.

Especially in lieu of fact very few CIS/NCAA canucks were drafted in any round during the NFL draft. NFL now has policy in place that refuses to draft canadians, realizing they can just sign whoever they want after the draft anyways.

Would the expansion from 6 to 7 rounds also be in preparation of Ottawa returning in 2014?

The 2014 CFL Draft will also feature 7 rounds and Ottawa will get two bonus picks at the tail end of the draft. The RedBlacks will head to camp with 11 drafted players that don't count against the 75 player limit of training camp.
