Things like this really bug me about the CFL. Honestly why are they tweeting this out (and why is the CFL official feed retweeting it) when they know the League has made the decision not to make the Expansion Draft protected lists public. Just waiting for some smart alek to tweet back at them "Hope it's not a dead guy"

Just a well-meaning PR stunt rids. The big concern is dead guys or NFL practice rosters. Top 5 or 6 guys might have legit nfl aspirations.

Ok so who do we get from Calgary?

    Guessing/wishing for:

Rob Maver, Jabari Arthur/Johnny Forzani/Brad Sinopoli/do you see the pattern here? and Chris Randle.

Where's Solar Max when you need him.

13thman.com has sort of become the unofficial Redblacks' forum

With that in mind the Stampeders sign Mo Price to an extension.

Nice piece by Mike Hogan on TSN regarding a club's deliberations over which players to protect:

Argos have pre-draft decisions to make

Imagine leaving your house, well aware that you're about to be robbed, and not being able to do anything about it. That's the feeling that eight Canadian Football League teams are experiencing right now in advance of the expansion draft to stock the Ottawa Redblacks.
Each team will lose three players in the process, with each club knowing it will in all probability lose at least one player of substance. Good news for the Redblacks, bad news for the club teams. (draft rules explained at end of article)
For the Toronto Argonauts, general manager Jim Barker has been preparing for this event since it was announced the league would return to the nation's capital. The process to come up with a protection list hasn't been easy.

While the article specifically deals with the Argos, the same considerations will be in play in the front offices of every club.

Nobody wants to lose any players.

    But all of them will.

The TSN comment section after articles is always a wild place to venture but there was one comment that was pretty much a good idea.

Why didn't the CFL allow Ottawa a graduated system of non-imports to enter the league? On one hand it gives them an opportunity to field a fairly competitive team from early on (which is a stated desire) and on the other hand it saves some of the non-imports that teams have invested in for a couple years already.

The comment on TSN was a little extreme but what about having future expansion teams dress 10 non-imports in their first year, 15 their second and full ratio in their third? Change the expansion draft to being 14 imports + 1 QB + 12 non-imports and make to two rounds only but teams could select 2 non-imports or an import/QB + a non import. Starting with at least 8 non-imports plus a few free agents then they could have a good starting point to a franchise.

Scott Mitchell weighs in with his projected list of protected Stampeders:

    Building list no easy task

    They made a list.

    They checked it twice.

But the Calgary Stampeders and GM/head coach John Hufnagel don’t really care if anyone’s been naughty or nice.

Good luck getting that holiday tune out of your head now. Sorry.

With expansion draft protected lists needing to be submitted to the CFL league office Sunday night, the Stamps were in the same unenviable position as the other seven established franchises in that they were forced to sift through their rosters and decide on one quarterback, 10 imports and six non-imports to shield from the pillaging and plundering Ottawa RedBlacks.

    Seems easy, right?

    Not so much.

An interesting and reasoned approach, but 5 import receivers?

I dunno whether they'll get away with that...

It's a very troubling situation for all teams. I'm pretty sure that Calgary won't protect 5 receivers though but leaving Fuller exposed likely changes Ottawa's mind on who they do take and instead they take him.

Hiring Ricky the Dragon Steamboat Campbell gives the Redblacks a leg up on recruiting. Campbell's first mission will be recommending players in his former province so expect some nifty personnel recruits come draft day. Campbell knows the Esks roster intimately and has a decent idea about the Stamps. He really doesn't care about the bombers as thats a semi-pro roster, at best unless Walters fumbles the ball there might be one decent mid-card player exposed.

Campbell should have a good handle on the state of Matt Nicholls, Tom Demarco, Kevin Glenn and Tate

    Yeah, that's my thinking, too.

And, if they take Fuller, that leaves Maver vulnerable in the second round, since by passing on one of the available QBs, a punter/kicker becomes available for selection...:(

Both are players I'd rather see stay in Calgary.

I hope Tate or Glenn is a greater temptation for them...

Here's an article on the draft from an Ottawa perspective:

Redblacks have options: Calgary QB likely headed for capital

The roster of the Ottawa Redblacks will receive its biggest boost yet when the Canadian Football League franchise participates in an expansion draft on Dec. 16.

Here’s a primer on how the draft will work and educated guesses on some of the 24 players who could land with the Redblacks, who are to start their first CFL season next June.

http://www.ottawacitizen.com/sports/Redblacks have options Calgary likely headed capital/9261987/story.html

While nobody really knows until the draft has been completed, the writer of this piece is dreaming in technicolor if he really thinks Paredes may be left unprotected...

    Ay carumba!

No wonder the guy played with a chip on his shoulder throughout most of 2013...$70K? And that's with bonuses?

I don't like how he comports himself, either on or off the field, but he is a talent.

I don't blame him for being interested in marketing himself south of the border...

And, unless the Roughriders step up big time, I expect that's exactly what he'll do...
