Just to be a message board with actual information I thought I'd start to discuss some items that may not be well known outside their communities. (in some cases those in their communities don't even know)

For starters let's look at CIS scholarships and what they really can do.

First off there is an equivalent max per sport of 70% of the Championship roster. That being the game day roster of 45 players and not the total roster that they carry (in some cases over 100). So for football that means 31.5 equivalent scholarships.

What does an equivalent scholarship mean? That's the tuition and fees cost for a single player. The dollar amount doesn't matter. So for example two players each get a scholarship for $5000 if player A's tuition + fees costs $10000/year and player B's tuition + fees costs $5000/year those two players equal 1.5 equivalent scholarships even though they got the same amount of actual dollars.

In Canada the so called "Full Ride" scholarship does not exist. The "Athletic Financial Award" is not supposed to cover books, room, board, or other costs associated to attending school.

Not a bad deal if you live in the same city as the school you attend as you can live at home. Just have to pay for books.

Only if you get a full portion. How many guys get a full portion per school?

Calgary had somewhere around 90 guys attached to the football program last year. With most schools I would suspect that the whole travel roster would get portions and likely down your depth chart to the top 50 would receive funds.

The scary thing is that for all the athletes in the CIS across the board only 48% receive Athletic Funds.

In 2008-09 (the last year available online for scholarship info) there were 10,804 CIS athletes that received a total equivalency of 2080 tuition+fees scholarships.

So, average about 20% of all costs...
