STAMPS ACQUIRE WEBB; SIGN SHELL
The Calgary Stampeders have concluded a trade with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, acquiring import defensive back Dee Webb in exchange for a conditional 2015 draft choice.
The Stamps have also signed free-agent veteran import defensive back Lin-J Shell, who was most recently with the BC Lions.
“These players possess considerable experience and provide us with depth in the secondary,” said Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel. “We know Dee from his first stint in Calgary and obviously our defensive coordinator Rich Stubler is very familiar with Lin-J from their time together in BC.”
Webb originally signed with the Stamps in 2009 and he played one game that season with the Red and White. The 29-year-old Florida Gators alum signed with the Toronto Argonauts in 2011 and was then traded to Hamilton, where he spent two-and-a-half seasons.
In 42 career games, he has 109 tackles, nine special-teams tackles, four interceptions — including two interception-return touchdowns — and one fumble recovery.
Shell has 89 games of CFL experience in five seasons with the Argos and Lions. He was an East Division all-star in 2010 and 2011 and has accumulated 280 tackles, 55 special-teams tackles, eight interceptions, two forced fumbles and nine fumble recoveries during his career.
The Jacksonville University product was among the league leaders with 35 special-teams tackles over the past two seasons with BC.
In other transactions, the Stampeders have released import defensive back Jonathan Hefney and import receiver Tim Hawthorne.
