Now this is called planning ahead! Already set their pre-season game for 2015 to take place in Fort McMurray at their fancy new stadium. Personally I love it and if only the opponent was a team from Newfoundland this thing would be sold out tomorrow!!!

Will be interesting to see for sure, it's a great idea around Commonwealth being occupied for all of June.

Knew their had to be a catch. They are releasing an additional 3,000 tickets for this game next week.

Pre-sale is almost sold out for an event 2 years away.

No it was 3,000 pre-sale to Eskimo season ticket holders with 2,000 additional tickets and then they announced another group of 3,000 tickets.

Not trying to be a Negative Nancy here but that's not all that impressive. In the end they'll have 5,000 at the game.

they had 6,204 at Varsity that holds 4,500. For a once in a lifetime memorable event it's not a bad idea.

and I like Debbie Downer better.

The Blow Jobs made it a memorable event. Not the Argos. They had no choice.

considering that the argos' home opener had to be their biggest draw of the year and a lot of those 30,000 tix were given as freebies to season ticket holders who couldn't get their ticket to the varsity stadium game it's safe to say that winning the 100th grey cup at home isn't going to draw them more than 25,000 a game. At least they have a core they can build on. There was more enthusiam and merchandise at the 2005 home opener.

How can anyone get excited about a venue that holds 5,000 seats? In Toronto of Fort Mac. Is this what our league is becoming??? Hey, great... Fort Mac gets to see a game. But let's face it if international women's soccer hadn't forced the Esks out, they'd never have gone to Fort Mac in a hundred years. So, this isn't about Edmonton growing the sport in Alberta as that city already has a thriving football community. They had virtually nowhere else to go.
In Toronto, the legacy game at Varsity Stadium was all about the Blue Jays kicking the Argos out of Rogers Centre & the Argos marketing department had to scramble & come up with a theme to save face.

That's not entirely true. Fort Mac has a growing football community that has taken it's high school program and switched it up into 4 9man teams to encompass more players than before. They are also looking at adding a new junior team for the PFC using that same facility (it'll put them into the best junior stadium likely in the country).

As for having nowhere else to go there's a TON of options. They could've been lazy and stayed in Edmonton, playing the exhibition game at Foote Field (there are 4 nights during the Women's World Cup coverage that would've made this very simple and not even conflicted for parking/staff). Or there's a good facility just outside the city in Spruce Grove that could've worked out. Outside the city there's Red Deer or Grande Prairie that both would've loved to host the game. Going outside the box there's ideas like Saskatoon, Medicine Hat or even Kelowna as spots that have exhibition sized stadiums.

Here's the excitement factor. It's bring pro players into a community without pro teams. The events surrounding this game will create fans out of casual viewers or people that'll watch if they happen to be in the bar on a Friday night. I think it's fantastic and would love to see events like this part of the norm.

That's what I said about Fort Mac. It does have a vibrant football community. The thing is, this isn't an Eskimo initiative brought about by the team or the CFL wanting to grow the sport. It has nothing to do with that as it was brought about by the fact the Esks were kicked out of their stadium. So, Edmonton had to come up with something. How much are the tickets & just how did people reserve them?? How many grassroot fans that aren't VIPs are going to be going out of that 5,000?
