Tom Higgins has deemed long hair to be part of a player's uniform and therefor able to be used as part of a tackle.

This came up after Montreal returner Trent Gay was tackled twice by his hair - and although a flag was thrown on the place, it was overturned.

This quote sums it up the best in my opinion:

We're trying to raise money to have his hair cut on the fan train back from toronto oct. 14 and donate it for breast cancer research.

The length of some players hair is absolutely ridiculous & looks bad. Good, they want to have super long hair, let it be part of the equipment...

Agreed. It's their choice to grow it long so it shouldn't be something that prevents opponents from making a tackle. They shouldn't have to try to avoid it and risk missing the tackle completely. Nor should they be flagged if they accidentally end up with a fistful of hair, that is in many cases, leaving very little jersey to grab hold of. No, I agree with Higgins, grow it long at your own risk. It's your choice to do so, so you should shoulder the the risk not your opponent. Players will just have to accept that because the alternative is banning hair beyond a certain length altogether.
