Man its tough to watch those two perform so well in a Rider uniform! 3 sacks for Hughes last night, and you know he’s saving his best game for BLM.

I hate that they’re in green this year!

In Huff we trust! In the past he has picked the perfect time to move on from players that are post apex; I’m hoping he was right again in these 2 cases as well. Time will tell!

Yep, I fully agree the timing was likely right, especially in Messam’s case. Just tough to watch in the meantime.

I didn’t mind watching them both be invisible while Ottawa handed them their lunch; I guess the parade is off again; until next week!

What I didn’t realize until I heard from CHQR 77 Stamps insiders comment on how many maintenance days these two went through last year.

Sports today are totally predicated on speed, skill and young legs.

    Ok, I’m over it now...apparently I was just nostalgic...for a bit. Lol.

Last night vs Montreal Hughes was invisible and I’m not sure Messam even got off of the bench.

Compare that to our D line and Jackson and once again Huf looks brilliant!

Even though he always raises my eyebrows for a bit, Huff always seems to know when to fish and when to cut bait on a player.

He learned well from the master, while being mentored at Wally's knee.;)

I think Hughes will have a good year this year, as long as he can stay healthy. I think his decline starts next year. Which means, Huff probably managed to trade him in his last year with value.

    I think Messam is done.

You could be right. I like Huf’s theory. That he’d rather move on from a player 1 year too soon than 1 year too late.

Hughes with 2 sacks in BLM tonight. He looks real good out there, but it’s a long season and this one was easy for him to get excited for.

As expected, he probably played his best game of the year (in a losing cause as expected also).
Sask loves post apex players and he fits right in; Mesdames looked terrible; even revenge didn’t motivate him like it did Hughes.

    Hmmmmmnnnn...

Drummed out and off the roster because of alleged criminality.

    Well, that's a first.

At least for the 'riders, that is...;)

Well what a different story since I started this thread. 1st Messam cut and barred from the CFL for a voyeurism charge, and now Hughes charged with a DUI. Sounds like Hughes was in quite the state, basically found passed out on the side of the Ring Road that runs around Regina and when he was awoken by the police, refused a breath sample.

Do you think Huf had any insight on these two players and that helped him to move them off of the team? I doubt it in Messam's case, I think Huf determined he was at the end of his career and we needed to move on, but I'm curious about the Hughes decision. I wonder if there were signs that he had an issue with alcohol and Huf decided to move on while the getting was good?

I think it came down to money and age. As well, if you look at Hughes over the past few seasons starts strong and slowly digresses as the season goes along. With Messam, simply put: Speed. He no longer had the ability to hit the “holes” at full speed. Too many times he barely made it to the line of scrimmage before being tackled. The Stamps has good depth and better options beside what has transpired with both players.
