Cleveland Brown's WR Josh Gordon has his one year suspension recently upheld for violating the substance abuse policy for a 3rd time.

There are now rumblings and speculation that Gordon is exploring possible CFL options.

Now, Gordon cannot play in the CFL so long as he is on an active NFL roster and suspended by the league. If he were to be released by the Browns however, then he would be free to join the CFL.

Don't know is this is accurate, but NFL reporter Albert Breer states the Calgary Stampeders hold his CFL rights.

    Thoughts?

Although, according to a NFL League source, the Browns will not release Gordon to allow him to play in the CFL.

The plot thickens - Albert Breer states he has spoke to Stamps Assistant GM John Murphy and he is working on getting Gordon signed.

Without a release from the Browns, the Stampeders cannot sign Gordon.

I think that is what the "effort" reference is in the Twitter quote.

I'm certain that Murphy is savvy enough to know that he can't sign Gordon to a CFL contract without consent from the Browns.

Hufnagel at one time was the QB coach in Cleveland.

I wonder if he still has any connections there?

No there is a loophole that the NFL club can give permission so their player can play in the CFL while they maintain the NFL rights.

Gordon's year long suspension has been reduced to 10 games under the new substance abuse policy - of which he has already served 2 games, so he will return week 12.
