We got them right where we want them.
Contrast that speech by Huff (which was brilliant!!!) to Cory Chamblin's "Hit em in the mouth, hit em in the mouth, hit em in the mouth, hit em in the mouth" speech last week... Not even close.
Not even close.
It's 2008 all over again.
We are playing Toronto, in Toronto. We are playing on the road. We are playing in a dome. We are playing in front of 65,000 screaming fans. Men, we have them right where we want them.
Huff will need a new speech. I am confident that he will come up with a zinger!
But hey give the Riders credit, they listened.
And it probably cost them the game because of all the brainless, classless, throughtless, reckless penalties they took in the process of "hitting them in the mouth."
Smart coaching? Only if getting your troops fired up is the only objective and smart football isn't.
Contrast that with Huff. This is a team that has had a reputation for being undisciplined, and indeed they started the season that way, but over the second half of the season they've been one of the most disciplined teams in the league. I don't think it's a coincidence that during that same time frame they were also the hottest team in the league.
But last night they took it to a new level. If I'm not mistaken it was the 4th quarter before they took a single penalty. Bear that in mind when you watch Huff's pregame speech.
And compare that to Chamblin's speech...
Huff's a great head coach. He & Trestman are the two best in the CFL.
Huff set the bar high in 2008 with that pre-game speech.
Looking forward to what he comes up with in 2012
