The Canadian Football League announced today that it has adjusted its eligibility rules for players with non-import status in the CFL Draft.

For players with non-import status playing in the CIS, they will be eligible to be selected in the CFL Draft three years after completing their first year of CIS eligibility.

Previously, a CIS player was eligible to be selected after their fourth year of post-secondary education.

Not a fan of the changes on the CIS side. It makes this year's draft class absolutely huge with players that normally would've been drafted plus players a year behind them. Don't think that drafting 3rd year guys will be smart in the long run as most will probably elect to return to complete their degree and many would only be 1 year starters at that point while the next year they'd be much better football players.

Rids the players will be drafted after their fourth year of playing... It's three years after they have completed one year of eligibility. This accommodates for any red shirt type years. At present some can return for 2 years of eligibility after being drafted.

That's not how it was explained to me but hopefully is the case.

A TSN reporter was calling it draft after 3, able to return for 2.
