it is official, NHL comes to Las Vegas.
You goin', Jason?
Oklahoma's not that far...
OKC had a team in the CHL,the Blazers, however they moved up into the
AHL nothing more has been said about the OKC Barons.
With the Las Vegas team, the total is 33 teams.
On a day like today, sitting inside a cold hockey rink wouldn't be bad.
Univ of OK has a hockey team, their coach came out here from Boston
to be the HC.
I see a peter arvanitis from montreal on the sooners website.
Vegas seems to have a solid ownership base, a decent arena to play in and the luck of the roll when it comes to routine, profitable tourism. I suspect they'll confirm around 9,000 to 10,000 season tickets plus promotional walk-ups of 2,000 to 5,000 on a routine basis. If they get the right mix of corporate, state and civic support they'll make money. Pee Wee Herman (Bettman) is over-joyed as he's closed a $500 million sale - and each of the other 30 teams will be getting around 15 million for letting Vegas in. (Bettman and/or the league gets the other 50 million)
TV contract should be super-profitable as the cameras will be showing various celebrities and high-rollers in the stands and the boxes on a routine basis. L.V. will probably have a really sexy between period show, pre-game and post-game to titillate patrons. . . . plus the obligatory touts from all the casinos, restuarants and "other services" handing out coupons and certificates every night. Its a big TV market - if they get a few good players in the expansion draft they'll be long-running team.
Bettman obviously froze the Quebec City application cuz he knew they couldn't come up (and maybe didn't want to come up) with the 500 mill. Woulda been a super score for Pee Wee Bee if he coulda raped Vegas and Quebec City for a billion.
Quebec's only real hope is having a present team become like the Atlanta thrashers and forced to move in time for the 2017-18 season. Peter Stastny ever the optimist believes it could happen sooner than that.
My error, the guy from Boston was the coach l think from about ten years ago.
Okie st. had a hockey team but it was a club sport. Don't know if it's still around. Univ of OK is a more wealthy school and can afford it.
That would be one long drive. You know that Eric Clapton song: Tulsa time
"crossing Oklahoma in an old Pontiac"
there's a roller hockey team known as the Cowboys.
Roller hockey team? Has to be a club sport. Like before univ of Oklahoma
Can afford a ice hockey team, for they have more money. Okie st. Is an ag school.
Here's an OKC Blazers hockey jersey from 2007 that was worn when Oklahoma
Celebrated our centennial.
sad that the OKC Barons don't play anymore.
Don't know what happened to he barons.
they became the Bakersfield Condors out in Cali. then Kevin Durant followed.
is that smoke I see from here in okie? smells like burnt jerseys.
Oh man my heart is broken, signed by GS no less!! GS really wants another title
very bad. You know why were called Okies don't you? During the dust bowl
a lot of Okies moved to California and sold their farms here. then to make matters worse Oklahoma led the nation in farmer suicide during the farm crisis
In the mid 80's.
The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. good book.
Grapes of wrath don't know what to make of that book. The sad part is
When the Okies went to Cali, looking for jobs, they were treated like dirt.
