Bob Irving usually weedles his way to all necessary interviews when a significant football event happens in Wpg. (like plop's dismissal)

Irving reported that Plop was "Stunned" by the announcement and in shock. That he wouldn't make himself available to media (Irving will get first shot as he's the house organ for all things bombers and c0-hosted the Plop radio show every Monday night from the casino) until early this week which could mean anything from Monday to Wednesday morning according to Plop's clock.

I hope the guy is OK. Not too many $260,000 jobs where you get canned out of nowhere but get cheques for the balance of your contract.

He will not be out of a job long! You can bet on that. I think Joe Mack is the problem in Winnipeg. Taman and Joe Mack are a like plain stupid when it comes to football. Paul got them to the Grey Cup but lost to many key players last year and why is that the GM did not replace them or pay to keep them. Paul is the fall guy on this one.

You hit the nail on the head RW. This is on Joe Mack. His reasoning for losing players sound more like excuses than anything else. He put it all on LaPo. Having said that, I do like what Tim Burke brings to the table & I think discipline will be key here for success.

Just amazed that Paul got away with a 4-14 season then takes his team to the grey cup, albeit thanks to the vaunted swaggerville defence, and now splits a 4 game homestand and gets canned. Amazing.

Paul was the hunted, make no mistake about it. Joe Joe Mack realized Paul didn't have all the qualities of great head coaches (who does) but he was the guy who hired Paul.

Paul deceived no one, he had a fair amount of success at most of his CFL pit stops (as an assistant or an OC), he was fairly young, straight as an arrow and most importantly well-liked by his players. I'll deal with Mack later but for now (and based on my hundreds of posts about Paul's coaching skills) he has replaced a timid, indecisive head coach who got nervous in the service with a tenacious bulldog.

If Burke makes as many brainfarts as Paul, then Mack and the board will allow him to ride out a disasterous season before cutting him loose when the season ends. Mack will be backed into a corner by our bord of direktors (jock-sniffers, knife 'n forkers) but make one last desperate attempt to sign a quality head coach and get the bombers into play.

But the bomber problems are far more than Paul LaPolice or Tim Burke. Mack's draft record is far worse than Paul's coaching record. Mack's ability to sign quality free agents and retain his best canadians is more pathetic than any brainfart Paul had in the last 3 years (and he had plenty of them)

Bombers had a somewhat exciting team, led by a virgin QB, a defense coming into its own but the overall coaching plan, the basic coaching staff and the relationship between Burke to Crowton to Paul was off-kilter.

I'll be interested to see how well our roster plays for Burke when things go array. ANd make no mistake, with this group they'll go array. They played for Paul right thru the brain cramps and the Barney Fife moments. Will they do the same for Tim?

How bout a return for Mike Riley? Oregon state hasn't exactly been great these last 2 years.

These guys will play for Burke or they're gone. One thing is for certain they won't be missing any flights back to Winnipeg coming off a bye week. I also like Burke's comments & learning under Marc Trestman & making practices more competitive with less standing around & talking. I also believe players won't be taking the week off to nurse bumps & bruises but back starting next game. You play how you practice & if the practices are more up tempo, more urgent & more competitive then the team is on the right track.

Burke's rep is that of a hardass while Paul was more of a lady's man - - - thats why the players loved him, they could deceive, cajole, lie, sluff & take undisciplied penalties without much fear of repurcussions!

Lets see if Burke is serious. Whats he gonna do? Cut stars like Hefney, Simpson, Tamborina, Johnson, etc. cuz they sluff off. He might cut one of them to make an example. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't Chad Simpson. Guy is a bit of damaged goods and last game he was free-lancing far too much and got snuffed in the backfield at critical points.

I think Burke will do whatever he has to do to get the message across that if you cross him then you'll pay the consequences. If he has to get rid of 5 star malcontents then I think he would. However, I don't think it will ever come to that. These guys already know he is a no nonsense guy.

When Paul lost Harris (to death) and his rider buddy Kaver Reed, he had no enforcers left on his staff - thus was on an island and defaulted to a Camp Comfort type of place vs. a Gestapo Kamp.

Just heard Joey Elliott comment on what a hard-working, earliest guy to work, offensive-minded, creative, attention to detail kind of guy Paul was. Rare that a player comments like that about an ex-coach, but Elliott is an honest broker and I respect him for that. In retrospect Paul might have been better off with a dullard like Barresi as his OC than bringing in Crowton. However, that coaching change (Crowton) had Joe Mack's fangs written all over it. . . .
