It is widely expected that the News Conference will be to announce the contract extension of Nik Lewis.
RE: Press Conference Today - Major Announcement Excellent news! I had seen the twitter from the Stampeders earlier this morning, and was speculating as to what the 'major announcement' might be...I was certain, however, that it wasn't breaking news of Bronks' report of the imminent signing of "Obi-wan Khan"... RE: Press Conference Today - Major Announcement (Lewis Extension) Great news for those of us in the office today - CHQR will be covering the press conference. http://forum.stampsfans.com/showthread.php?tid=830
RE: Press Conference Today - Major Announcement (Lewis Extension) Great news but I would love to see Nik focus on losing the gut and getting into better physical condition as good as he is he could probably be even better if he was a little quicker.
RE: Press Conference Today - Major Announcement (Lewis Extension) He actually spent the off season adding weight. Punishing guy at 240. The plan was that he'd be harder to take down with the extra weight and it hasn't hurt his leaping ability. Keep in mind of course that very little of the extra 25 pounds is fat, the guy is a monster! And then of course there's this.... http://cfl.ca/video/index/id/77085
RE: Press Conference Today - Major Announcement (Lewis Extension) New agreement on contract extension with Nik Lewis. Means maybe he can retire as a Stampeder. Terms not disclosed. Always wanted to sign in Calgary...didn't want to explore the open market. Getting better with age...strives to improve with each passing season. Hufnagel considers him a leader on the team, and considered getting an extension done as being "extremely important". Three minute conference. Post-conference interviews with Mark Stephen: Apparently used the bye week to complete negotiations...Hufnagel always believed it would get done. Stampeders able to fit what Lewis wanted into their SMS structure. Hufnagel believes Nik can continue to play at a high level, and the length of the contract will likely allow him to finish his career as a Stampeder. Lewis wasn't interested in going anywhere else...goal was to be a "Stampeder for life". "Only a matter of time...went to the boardroom and talked...I played at my level, and I knew if I did that they'd come back with what I wanted". Thinks about all-time records (like Pitts), but not really worried about his legacy..."that's for the media and fans to decide". New attitude this year "...calmer, better teammate, and do what I can to help wherever and with whatever I'm asked to do..." Does your new contract contain a restriction against blocking? "Ask Peach about that..." TM
The thing I don't like is the terms not disclosed part. The fans pay the freight in the CFL & as such we should be treated with a little more respect. Reminds me of the old NHL when salaries were embarassingly low. Gordie Hoew signed witrh Detroit & was told not to tell anybody what he was making. Howe told team owner Jack Norris not to worry as he was just embarassed as Norris was with what he was being paid.
Nik will definitely be on the Stamps WOF, and no doubt a future HOF'er as well. If Huf hadn't got the deal done, there would be riots in the streets (led by me).
You'd have had to have taken a number and lined up behind me... I have always loved how this kid plays! Not only a Stampeder for life, but one for all-time! TM
Glad it got done & didn't drag into the off season. Nik is a great player. I'd take him over Simon, Dressler & Richardson for sure.
