Just heard Dave Naylor on TSN Radio 1290 in Winnipeg.

He said the Stamps were sold to the Flames group for 17. 5 million dollars.. . . . the most a CFL franchise has ever been sold for!

Thats why iso & hoof's buddy who had the fan forums at the greek restaurant sold out. 17 million reasons!

I remember a time about 15 years ago when a CFL team was worth barely a million dollars. Good news if that price quote is true as it will scare the tire kickers off.

NHL teams buying CFL teams may become a trend. 17 mil is chump change for them.

But not chump change for former owners like Murray Pezim, Cynnamon & Sokalosky, Horn Chen & others looking to make a quick buck & then flip the team they owned. never worked out that way for any of them. The more a CFL franchise is worth, the more desirable. Serious buyers will then come forth. Not the jokers we've had before.

Thank goodness those days are over. Reading Jeff Giles' book about that era you had to wonder how the CFL ever survived.

David Asper's repeated failures to come up with necessary coin to complete a private sale in Winnipeg (at a low low bargain price Lyle Bauer had set for him) was the inspiration for Greg Slinger (NDP Premier) to throw caution to the wind, say he was sick of vermin like Asper playing Horn Chen-like games and he just threw $200 million at the team and said "BUILD IT!"

So what did Braley pay for the Argos a couple years ago? Was it $5 million or more?

$17 million is pretty impressive. CFL franchises on the rise!

I'd sure be skeptical that the Flames would pay that much. If they did, one has to wonder if a Sutter was in charge of overpaying.....err.... negotiating!:D
