Agreed Rids - although it was a longshot we'd be able to hang on to both of them anyway.

I'd much rather see Jones head south and get a shot then move over to Flatland.

Lemon was officially released by the Stampeders today.

In another transaction, the Stampeders have released international defensive lineman Shawn Lemon in order to allow him to sign a contract with a National Football League club.

Lemon was scheduled to become a free agent on Feb. 10.

“Shawn has an agreement in place with an NFL club and we are granting him his release in order to allow him to sign a contract immediately rather than waiting until February,” said Hufnagel. “We wish Shawn the best of luck and thank him for his contributions to the Stampeders.”

Lemon led the Stampeders with 13 sacks in 2014 and he tied the CFL single-season record with eight forced fumbles. He had 31 tackles, including five tackles for loss, and one interception.

Good luck Shawn! It just proves you sign with the Stamps and good things will happen.

NFL continues to scout the CFL for the DE/OLBs. With Rotations and specialty package players CFL experienced players in there mid 20's have proven to fit these roles. Opposed to a rookie FA getting a more experienced guy at the minimum NFL salary is huge. Min Salry for 1st 2nd and 3rd year NFL players still being about 500K is not shabby and too good to pass up.
On the flip side the CFL are catching players with NFL experience coming North at the same age. Like Eric Norwood keeps the balance. DBs are especially a hot commodity coming to the CFL from the NFL in their mid 20's

Good news is no word on Jones about the Steelers. Bad News is that he is still a FA and if not quite NFL ready like Heenan he will still among the most highly sought free agents in the CFL. Every team will want him the question will be who can afford him.
Lemon will be joined by the Bombers Ian Wild for the Steelers.
Intersting Wild's signing article comes with strictly special teams highlight package. Long Snapper, KO team, and punt return team. So you know what the Steelers have in mid for him. At 207 pounds his NFL position will be safety. At just 25 if he does not make the cut a good chance for him to get and accept a practice roster spot.
For Lemon at 27 another CFL DE plucked from the CFL as a rush DE/OLB as well as Teams player. Should he not make the cut likely he would return to the CFL mid season and highly touted. likely would like to be back with the Stamps but it will come down to who can afford him mid season. Either a team who is in need of a all star calibre DE or a team that has a DE out on the 6 game IR leaving room in the cap to sign him.
Should he make the cut odds are he will be a rotation/package player defender and teams player. Also likely he will would spend no more than 2-3 years in the NFL and still could come back to the CFL. i.e. Chick, Hickman. Not taking the beating of an almost every down player good chance returns better than when he left with gas in the tank.

Jones won't be signing with the Steelers - but he will go the NFL.
