Over the last 5 years the Stampeders have had an average of 7.6 draft picks per year. Now that is a little slanted as this is the second year of a return to 7 Rounds so let's round it up to 8 but moving forward it looks like this:

    Drafts on average
    OL - 2
    DL - 2
    WR - 1
    LB - 1
    DB - 1

    RB - 1
The eighth pick has been split between kickers, running backs and a quarterback. Seems unlikely that they'll look to a quarterback or a kicker so using the averages it appears to be a running back should the opportunity arise.

    2014 Calgary picks:
    Round 1 - 7th overall
    Round 2 - 16th overall
    Round 3 - 19th overall
    Round 3 - 24th overall
    Round 3 - 25th overall
    Round 4 - 34th overall
    Round 5 - 43rd overall
    Round 7 - 61st overall

    More Stampeder Draft Trends:

Over the past 5 years 44.7% of the players they've drafted are still with the team. Keep in mind that this is still during the expanded roster time of the year so that will drop a fair bit once we reach the middle of June.

Of their draft picks during those 5 years 68.4% of their picks are still in the CFL.

    Great stats Rids.

These last numbers are a really good discussion point - how do these percentages compare to other team's drafting records?

Also, of the players that are either no longer with the Stamps, or in the CFL at all, what percentage are in the NFL? Other professional league? Out of football entirely?

    Dealing with Calgary directly:

44.7% are still with the team
    23.7% with other CFL teams
    0 in the NFL

I haven't dug into other leagues but primarily these NI guys are only playing in Canada. Getting them a work visa to play in any of the pro leagues in the States would be a high percentage of their annual salary so it's become a rare item. Back pre-2009 when the Arena League paid roughly the same as the CFL there were a few. I've listed some on the site - http://RidleyScouting.com/CFLDraft.html

Again, some great numbers and potential stories in there.

Nice to see Calgary near the top of both categories, and some impressive numbers from the flatlanders.

The big one for me is BC - 61% still in football, so they are drafting quality players, but only 26% still with the Lions.
