Stampeders receiver gets chance with Forzani sidelined

You can’t make the club from the tub.

Joe West knows that all too well.

But the Calgary Stampeders wideout also knows a thing or two about perseverance.

After suffering a sprained ankle during training camp last spring, the 6-foot-1, 215-lb. receiver fell victim to the numbers game and was given his pink slip prior to the regular-season opener.

Instead of heading back home to Texas, however, West stuck around Calgary, rehabbing the wonky ankle while on the practice squad, and eventually working his way back into the conversation.

Pop in the game tape from the Stampeders’ Aug. 25 win in Regina, and you’ll see head coach/GM John Hufnagel’s patience paying off.
