    Stamps’ Jones looks to wrap mind around centre

    If Brett Jones thinks he can be confident with a scalpel, the aspiring medical school student should have no problem with the Calgary Stampeders protection schemes in his hands, as well.

    Easier said than done, though, for the 21-year-old rookie, who’ll start at centre in his first taste of CFL game action Friday against the B.C. Lions (7 p.m., QR77).

    “It’s all pretty new to me, but I’m definitely getting the calls down and hopefully we’ll get into the right fronts (Friday),” said Jones, who was chosen in the second round (16th overall) in last month’s CFL Draft. “It’s just more excitement for me. I don’t want to be nervous because you have to be confident with your calls so everybody else is on the same page.”

    It’s been an impressive training camp so far for the Weyburn, Sask., product.
