Stevenson hopes journey to Stamps land will be worth the weight
Offensive line hopeful dropped 35 pounds to try and play fullback for Edmonton only to get cut on the first day of camp, so he’s gaining it back for a shot in Calgary
    Scott Cruickshank,

To guard quarterbacks professionally, Dale Stevenson knew he needed more mass.

And he knew where to turn. And whom to call.

“Home-delivered pizza,” says Stevenson. “Pizza 73. Pizza Hut. And Domino’s with a student discount? That was money.”

For this cheesy diligence, for this caloric commitment, payoffs turned out to be rather, uh, skinny.

He spent 2011 marooned on the practice roster of the Edmonton Eskimos. And last season, because of ankle issues, he saw nothing but the injury list.

Then the Eskimos had a bright idea — turning Stevenson into a fullback. So, son, would you mind dropping some pounds in time for 2013?

Gamely, Stevenson went about carving the freshly won weight from his six-foot-seven chassis. Which primarily meant skipping all-you-can-eat buffets and enduring extra sessions of running.

“That’s why I’m so skinny right now. A lot of weight loss.”

From 295 to 260, to be exact.

All — believe it or not — for nothing.
