Who woulda thunk it about half way thru training camps??? 1. Hamilton Ti-Cats - eviscerated the once mighty AC-Als but 40 yr old creaky AC managed to put up nearly 400 yds passing on the board. Hamilton is getting solid but some obvious holes in the cheese factory. But if Henry Hankenstein holds up they've got some monster yard gainers in Walker & Sir Barf-a-lot... 2. Sask'n Riders - based on records alone should be #1 but they puked up a big lead this weekend to the Stamps. Some obvious holes in rider-land, especially with Bagg gone for the year but give Taman credit for re-building a nice defense and a very solid o-line (now coached by former monster OT Dan Goodspeed). Sheets is a very nice versatile tailback. Hopes to maintain a shot at the Grey Cup rest on one man - Maid Marian! 3. Eskimos - WOW! This is hard to write but they might have the best D in the league, even with the erratic orange-head trading away hall of fame QBs. Their weakness is obviously carrying two of the worst QBs in the league as their starters (Jyles, Joseph) but Jyles is very athletic despite a bit of brittleness setting in and Joseph is starting to see the advantages of disciplined execution as his 39 yard pins can't carry him to more than the odd 20 yard romp. BEST D in the league led by Mike Kelly's old friend, Mark Nelson. 4. Montreal - the lug nuts are loose but the wheels haven't totally fallen off this old car. AC is still putting up some monster numbers but the Als defense is putrid - almost as bad as Winnipeg and thats saying something. Jeff Reinbold's number might be up - SOONER vs. LATER! Great receivers for AC to play catch with. Might have to send McPherson abroad to obtain a defensive leader or two (and the teams interested in A-Mac might include Wpg, Edmonton, Calgary) 5. Stampeders - Would have them out of playoffs if not for Glenn's inspired comeback. Still some big question marks with the frying pan hands, Glenn's obvious inconsistencies, Cornish's slow start, team discipline. Still a playoff squad. Unflappable coach. Biggest weakness right now is in the executive and managerial suite. (non-football guys including the lord) 6. Toronto - Ricky Ray can always get you if you aren't careful. CFL's best balanced team - both offense, defense and special teams are all B- to B.....other CFL teams have more holes. 7. BC Lions - O how the mighty have fallen - not really, they were 0-5 coming out of the chute last season and they've won some games this year (albeit one vs the impotent bombers) - but Simon is nicked, Bruce is still in training camp mode, they're totally undisciplined and it all might be falling on Benny VD's. Frankly, I don't see them staying in the 7 spot all season but perhaps they won't rise past #3. But u never know if Lulay goes wild. 8. Bombers - only one 3-letter word describes this outfit. SAD. Can't score - can't stop! Perfect Rx for redundant losing. Also have worst starting QB, worst coach, worst OC and poor training program. Other than that - ITS A GREY CUP PARTY BABY!!!! P.S. May have rated Als a bit too high. Many of you would have Als in the Lions spot #7.
