Hasn't turned out so nice again (sorry Cactus Jack) for the Riders and Bombers this pre-season.

However, two way different situations in terms of who's on the hook.

In Regina, Tennessee Corky (aka Chris Jones) has been signed to a long-term, hi-paid contract as coach and GM. There's no way Mr. Reynolds (their scoreboard accountant) terminates Corky no matter how bad things get, and they will get bad!

Corky is saying all the right things and acting disturbed about the riders tepid play thus far. He'll probably excommunicate the local media if the heat gets turned up a tad - but in good 'ol boy country - the media likes getting invited to kool-aid parties and half-time buffets.

Corky's success is tied to one thing - Mike Reilly #13. Without Reilly the Esks would have been just another .500 team last year and no way would they have baffled the stamps in the western final.

Corkscrew U is prolly trying behind the scenes to tempt Ed the Sock Hervey into trading Reilly to Sask'n for Durant, Labatte and bag of draft picks. Not gonna happen, Hervey is all-hick but not that bad. He's the defending champion and realizes it was more Reilly than Corky.

IN WINNIPEG - Michael O'Shea, aka Old Stoic is in the last year of his contract. Drew Willy is in the first year of his massive $400,000 contract. Bombers have upgraded their o-line (supposedly), hired PLOP the Police as their OC and brought in the twin dwarf offense with Dressler and Smith plus acquiring Winnipeg native Andrew Harris.

Whispers have gradually come to normal audio levels about Willy not have accomplished much in his CFL career - other than not finishing over 70% of games during his 3 year stint. His tendency to hold onto the ball past the emergency holding time has proven disasterous. When he does throw, he's pretty much hit 'n miss - not a particularly accurate boy.

So while other teams seem to have settlement at QB the riders and bombers are very unsettled - despite the brave yap emanating from their tall foreheads.

O'Shea could be the first coach taking the fall in 2016 - an 0 and 3 start could trigger an early season execution. And if Willy falters (either via poor play or injury) I suspect his days are over as a bomber and they'll desperately try to bring in someone like Jonathan Crompton or Trevor Harris (via trade) to back up Matt Nichols.

If Durant falters in Sask'n Corky from Tennessee will have no problems dispatching the Dairyman and bringing in replacements. He's got job security. O'Shea, meanwhile will continue to publically back Drew Willy and thus jeopardize his future and the entire team.

Maas may be a rookie coach but his team is still pretty good. Edmonton and Calgary should once again fight for top spot while the other 3 teams flounder for that final playoff spot.

will corky jones prefer the banjo bowl to the battle of alberta? the latter will more likely determine top spot while the former will determine the cave dweller.
