This is one of these stories that makes you scratch your head. How can a student get away with taunting an adult for months? Why didn't Vanderjagt & the school do something about it before it got to this? I won't judge the man until all the facts come out.

    Good idea, iso.

After all, this did occur in Florida.

Land of the "Stand your ground" defence...

No doubt the authorities are presently analyzing Vanderjagt's actions from precisely that perspective...:p

So TM, rumours are the high school is looking to replace Vanderjagt with Scott Norwood.

I bet there are times Vanderjagt wishes he'd have stayed an Argo.

Idiot or not - guilty or not - he's done. Schools can't afford the risk, they'd rather get sued for firing him than the idea he may hurt a student.

    He's finished.

Don't think so. This could go to trial. If he's not guilty then he can sue the principal, school or school division. Being the US, he may be able to sue the student &/or his family. TM could advise on this.

Vanderjerk should look to get on as a second man for Razor Ruddock's comeback to pro boxing. Razor is only 47 and says he's in the best condition of his life - and then the phone rings at the nursing home!!!!

If they can find a couple stiffs with no power in their mitts then Razor might have a couple fights left.....

Unless there's video we don't know of, it's his word vs. 2 students.

    The schools options are:
-Defend his innocence, and retain him. If he hurts a student in the future the school gets sued into the stone age. Even if he doesn't the school could get sued by this kids parents.

-Fire him based on eye witness accounts. How would he sue with 2 witnesses saying he did it?

It is much less risk to can him. I'll be shocked if they don't unless further evidence is introduced in his favor.

I feel bad for the guy. Some punk student who will probably never do what Vanderjagt did as a player mocks him for missing a FG. I don't condone what he did but I can understand a moment of indiscretion by the guy. He screwed up. But somebody should punch that kid too, as he deserves it.

Does anyone remember exactly how long that 'famed' field goal Vanderplunk missed was? What were the wind conditions?

It was a 46 yard FG attempt in the Dome at Indy.

The best/worst part is that he missed it about 46 yards wide right. ;)

I thought he was only 7 or 8 yds wide.

Sort of a typical Troy Westwood huck!

I feel for kickers. Vanderjagt was on top of the world until that kick. He actually thought people cared about what kickers think. Hell, he even called out Peyton Manning. Then.... the... kick... Became the NFL's version of Sandra DeAngelis.
