The Calgary Herald is reporting tonight that Martin Gelinas will be announced tomorrow as the newest member of Bob Hartley's staff, and that he will be the assistant in charge of offence and the PP:

Here's one of Gelly's 3 series winning markers during the Flames' 2004 Stanley Cup run (the 4th one being the phantom goal in game 6 of the Tampa final series which was never reviewed:():

    Great hire in my view!

Only a few years removed from his own playing days, Gelinas is a hard-working and well-repected member of the storied Flames run from 8 years ago, and I look for him to mesh really well with both veterans and the youngsters coming up on the team! :D

Thanks TM. I've gotta say that video gives me goosebumps. (It also makes me feel old since I was only 21 at the time. :p) I haven't watched any of those highlights in a long time. It was too painful given how close they came and the fact that there may have also been a Stanley Cup winner by Gelinas that somehow went completely unnoticed.

I hate seeing the replay of the goal that was. It will be a while before we are in the position again and Iggy will probably never see his cup he deserves.

Iggy needs to find a new team. Trade him to a Stanley Cup contender. For his own good to cap off his career or he'll be another Mike Gartner, Eddie Giacomin, Keith Magnusson, Marcel Dionne or Gary Unger. Great players who never won a SC but deserved to.
