So far, the game has not featured as much focus as we expected to see from the Stampeders.

The defence has been overmatched by being out on the field for far too long with 4 Calgary turnovers, 3 by the offence and 1 on special teams.

24 points on those turnovers for the Eskimos, as contrasted with only 7 the Stampeders put up after picking off Reilly.

A nice deep pass from Bo to Daniels for a 77 yard score, and a 75 yard run by Romar Morris have kept it close to this point early in the 3rd.

34-28 for the bad guys with 10 minutes to play in the third...

    Keep battlin' boys!

And, as the 3rd quarter draws to a close, matters go from bad to worse, with a 5th Calgary turnover off a pick off of a pass from Bo to Begelton.

Ex-Stamp Stafford with the major for Edmonton, and it's now 31 points for Edmonton off Calgary turnovers.

48-28 for the bad guys with time running out in the 3rd.

One more turnover each way, and another Stampeders score off theirs to narrow the margin to 48-35.

Trailing by 13 with 9 minutes to play.

Give 'em credit for at least hangin' in there even though they've played far from their best game tonight...;)

A 7th turnover off a deep pass by Mitchell on 2nd and 25 leaves the Stampeders trailing by 13 with the ball in the hands of the Eskimos with just over 6 minutes to play.

With an 7-2 turnover ratio favouring the Eskimos, the game is a lot closer than it has any right to be.

Second and goal at Edmonton's 8 with just over 2 to go.

And Romar Morris with an 8 yard catch for the major and it's 48-42 with 2:16 to go.

It's over, 48-42. It went down to the wire.
A good effort by the stamps.

Eskimos attempting to run the clock and Calgary has no time-outs remaining.

2nd and 6 for Edmonton and Ja'Gared Davis knocks the ball down.

    Edmonton punting.

Calgary ball at their 12 with 48 seconds to go.

    Incomplete pass to Morris.

    Another deep pass and incomplete.

    3rd down gamble.

Durant catches for 13 and 1st down at their 25.

    Incomplete with 23 seconds left.

Incomplete again with 15 seconds remaining.

Durant with the catch at Edmonton's 42 and 7 seconds.

Last play with an endzone incompletion to Brescacin.

    Game over.

Now which team gave this game away? ;)

Brescacin almost had it, but couldn't hold on.
I would have to say the turnovers hurt Calgary.

Personally, I have a hard time buying into the game given away narrative. When the clock hits zero, the winner is announced, and they are the winners. I think when teams and/or their fans complain about the game being 'given away' there is a lack of credit given to opposition. I do think it is a testament to the Stamps that they almost pulled it out, but seriously, how many of us here subscribe to the notion that if you lose the turn over battle, you lose the game? If the Stamps had won, there would have been some luck involved, but they still would have had to successfully complete the plays to get the points or make the stops. Considering they turned the ball over 7 times, I was still damned excited and happy to be on the edge of my seat with the hail mary opportunity to win it.

I think the correct team won, but I have to say, turn overs excepted, I was very happy with the offense tonight: the 'next-man-up' mentality and team depth is obvious, they never quit despite playing from behind the entire game, and even with the turn overs, probably still would have beat at least 6 of the teams in the league with tonight's performance.

I guess you missed the sarcasm.

The reference was to the whining by the Eskimos following the Labour Day contest.

If it was open for them to make that claim after a close last second loss in Calgary, it's also open to the Stampeders with a last second loss at Commonwealth.

And neither perspective has any validity by the way.

Nah Tundra, I didn't miss the sarcasm, I suspected it was aimed at the rhetoric coming from the Edmonton team and fan base for the last week. I read some of the other fan forums, but this is the only one I bother to participate in, simply because generally, while it is not hugely active, it tends to be respectful of the opposition, and the other people that do participate here.

While I do appreciate the sarcasm, you had already said it, so I didn't see the point in piling on. Just gave my take on the whole giving the game away concept and moved on.

Despite the loss, there were some good things to the Stamps game. And I personally believe, the Stamps just haven't faced enough adversity over the course of the regular season for the last decade, and it has hurt them in the play offs. So the occasional misfire probably isn't a terrible thing.

    Entirely agree.

Going in to the rematch, I didn't think a Stampeders win was critical today anyway.

And from their somewhat unfocused play on both sides of the ball, it looks like the Stampeders thought so too...;)

He's been '6 gamed', but may return for Hamilton.

However, with a bye week following that contest, I'd bet they'll hold him out until after the bye.
