Where are the New Recruits for Expanded Roster?

    With it being Wednesday, September 25, 2019, where are the new players for the expanded roster that DD promised? You would think that the Stampeders would be eager to bring the new players into Calgary right away?

    Lot of team budget prolly used in replenishing injuries with fresh players, salaries, signing bonuses, etc. Either not as many fresh ballers in the hopper or just a refusal to bite on paying out more cash?

    The Calgary Stampeders have added five American players to their practice roster – receiver Darren Andrews, running back Tim Flanders, linebacker Chase Middleton, offensive lineman Jordan Morgan and defensive lineman Mbi Tanyi.

    For a one-month period every season, CFL teams are permitted to carry an additional five practice-roster players (15 instead of the usual 10 in addition to two spots for global players).
    Flanders has played 19 career CFL games for Winnipeg and BC while the other four additions are all newcomers to the CFL.

    Andrews was signed by the National Football League’s New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2018. In 40 games over four seasons at UCLA, Andrews had 161 receptions for 1,963 yards and 15 touchdowns. He added seven carries for 76 yards and one score, five punt returns for 34 yards and four kickoff returns for 81 yards.

    2017 - Starter in all nine games in which he saw action ... Semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award ... Second on the team with 60 receptions for 773 yards and a team-high 10 touchdowns ... Caught a touchdown pass in seven of the nine games ... Honorable mention All-Pac-12 selection by the coaches ... Caught a career-best 12 balls vs. Texas A&M (142 yds), totaled a career-best 175 receiving yards at Memphis and three scoring catches vs. Hawai'i ... Had 10 catches for 175 yards at Memphis to become the first Bruin since 2003 to record at least two double-digit reception games in the same season ... His total of 10 scoring passes tied for the fourth-most ever by a Bruin receiver for a season ... Finished his Bruin career fourth on the all-time school receptions list, ninth on the all-time touchdown receptions list (15) and 12th on the all-time receiving yards list (1,977) ... Had at least four receptions in eight games ... Caught at least one pass in 28 of his last 29 career games.

    Flanders played one game for BC in 2015 and 18 games for Winnipeg from 2016-18. He has 556 career rushing yards and four touchdowns and 43 catches for 352 yards and three scores. He also has eight career kickoff returns for 150 yards. Flanders was briefly a member of the Stampeders organization during the off-season leading up to the 2015 campaign.

    Flanders completed his collegiate career at Sam Houston State as the school’s and Southland Conference’s all-time rushing leader with 5,664 yards and 66 touchdowns. Flanders was a three-time finalist for the Walter Payton Award as the most outstanding offensive player in Division I Football Championship Subdivision.

    Morgan was selected by the Chicago Bears in the fifth round (147th overall) of the 2017 NFL draft. He has also spent time with the Tennessee Titans and New York Jets.

    Morgan started in all 43 games over four seasons at Kutztown University. In his senior season, he helped Kutztown set a single-game record with 459 rushing yards and was the player in school history to receive the Gene Upshaw Award as the top lineman in Division II. He was named to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East first all-star team for three straight seasons.

    Middleton signed with the NFL’s Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent in April and was released in May. He was then signed by the Atlanta Falcons and released on Aug. 31 after appearing in the team’s final two pre-season games.

    Collegiately, Middleton played 47 games in four years at Georgia State and was a two-year starter. He finished his Panthers career with 191 tackles, good for sixth in school history. The linebacker also recorded 8.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and six knockdowns.

    Tanyi attended 2019 rookie mini-camps with the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens and Los Angeles Chargers. He played 39 games over four seasons at the University of Maryland and registered 69 tackles including four tackles for loss, two sacks and one knockdown. Tanyi started all 12 games as a senior in 2018.

    As a Senior (2018): Started all 12 games on the defensive line ... totaled 36 tackles (16 solo) on the season to go with 2 tackles for loss and a QB hurry ... tallied 4 tackles, with 1 tackle for a loss and 1 sack vs. #23 Texas (9/1) ... totaled a season high 5 tackles against Temple (9/15) ... notched 4 tackles each at #7 Michigan (10/6) and at Indiana (11/10) ... major contributor on special teams, starting on both the punt and field goal block team.

    As a Junior (2017): Appeared in 12 games, making nine starts on the defensive line ... Notched career-high seven tackles at #22 Michigan State (11/18) ... Posted three tackles, inluding a TFL, at Rutgers (11/4) ... Made first career start vs. Towson (9/9), totaling two tackles and a sack.

    As a Sophomore (2016): Appeared in nine games, totaling nine tackles ... had career-high three tackles in extended role at Indiana (10/29).
